The Science & Technology Teacher Resource Center is a
former Naval Training Center office, which has been transformed into a
centralized multi-purpose resource center, serving science and technology
educators throughout San Diego County. The Library and Resource Center is for educators to learn
about science and technology curriculum materials created by government
agencies, professional societies and commercial companies. STTRC has
established a library of materials (educational software, booklets, posters,
and handouts) so that teachers can conveniently review these rich resources and
determine which ones would enrich their students' learning experiences. It is:
- A Library and Resource Center for educators
- A meeting place for professional gatherings and teacher
professional development workshops
- A comfortable "Welcome Center" that
encourages creative and collaborative thinking
- A place for the presentation of ideas, formulation of
projects, development of curriculum and collaborative science & technology
educators learning
- Easily accessible from the 42 school districts in San
Diego County
- A Distribution Center where San Diego County teachers
can secure FREE classroom materials!
Convention items are discarded in San Diego, a mecca for
science and technology conventions and conferences, big and small. These events
typically have exhibit areas where vendors display products and give away
trinkets, most of which are of great value to teachers. What vendors don't use
they abandon. Government and commercial offices also discard materials whenever
a marketing campaign ends, companies merge, change names or leave behind
materials when they move. Our solution? STTRC volunteers collect, sort, shelve and display these
teacher treasures for pickup after school and on Saturdays. |
