What is the San Diego Science Alliance?
Founded in 1995, San Diego Science Alliance is a non-profit consortium of leaders from business, education and scientific institutions in San Diego County committed to science literacy in grades K through 12.

What is the mission of the Science Alliance?

The Science Alliance is committed to enhancing science literacy in K-12 education.

How does the Science Alliance fulfill its mission?
The Science Alliance enhances science literacy in K-12 education by: Providing science and technology resources to K-12 educators; Creating, implementing and supporting K-12 science education programs for San Diego County students and teachers; Developing advances in science education through the consortium.

Who participates in the consortium?

More than 250 member organizations participate in the Science Alliance, including science and technology-related businesses; scientific professional societies; research institutes; military agencies; museums, and other informal education organizations.

How do teachers access Science Alliance resources?
The Science Alliance “Science Alerts” initiative informs teachers about upcoming opportunities, events and resources via e-mail. Educators can sign up for the alert list through the science alliance Web site at www.sdsa.org/NewsAlerts/. In addition, the Science Alliance publishes and distributes the Resource Catalog, a director of science education programs available to teachers in San Diego County.

How is the Science Alliance funded?
The Science Alliance is privately supported through contributions from local businesses, foundations, and other granting institutions.

Who governs the Science Alliance?
A voluntary Board of Directors representing 25 science, technology and engineering based businesses, as well as elementary, secondary and higher education institutions, takes an active role in management of the Science Alliance. How can my organization become involved with the Science Alliance?

The Science Alliance is constantly seeking engineers, scientists and other members of the science and business communities to serve on our committees attend events or exhibit at the High Tech Fair. Organizations should contact Nancy Taylor (ntaylor@sdcoe.net), Executive Director, to discuss various options that best meet their interests. Organizations can also sign-up to receive special e-mail “Science Alerts” that are targeted to the business community.
