Organization Profile:AFCEA is a professional society of engineers, technicians, and scientists involved with communications, computers, command and control. The San Diego Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) continues its partnership programs with schools in San Diego County. A key AFCEA mission is to encourage students to enter science and engineering careers - defense and non-defense related - since we believe that a strong and creative technical workforce is essential to our future.
The programs we use to accomplish this are:
College Scholarship - This program consists of one or more undergraduate scholarship awards, renewable yearly for a maximum of fouryears. It is applicable to San Diego County residents who are graduating high school seniors and university students pursuing degrees in math, engineering, science, natural science, or computer science. Students must attend accredited 4-year, degree granting colleges or universities within the United States.
Science Fair Award - This program is run in conjunction with the San Diego County Science Fair. AFCEA representatives observe entries at the San Diego County Science Fair, and pick both Senior and Junior Winners. The Junior Winners will exhibit at the San Diego AFCEA C4I Symposium, and will be judged by a panel determined by the Educational Foundation Committee. At least one winner in that judgement will be awarded an all expense paid trip to the NASA Space Camp.
Outreach Program - This program provides a representative to schools and local businesses to act as a single point of contact to identify resources for schools in support of science, math, and technical training. Resources may be financial, labor, or material.
Targeting IT Needy Schools - This program provides labor, material, technical assistance, and financing to assist local schools, in concert with the district technical staff, in upgrading school infrastructure to support digital communications for use in the classrooms.
Science Tool Awards - This program provides grants to elementary and middle school teachers to assist in the purchase of materials or other equipment that would support experiments in science and math courses.
