TeacherTECH - Dive into Ocean Science and Computer Mapping!

Date(s): 08/11/2009 to 08/12/2009
Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm

Description:
Middle School, High School, Community College, Peer Mentors and Teacher Trainer Educators are invited to attend this exciting new Earth Science workshop, presented in collaboration with Oregon State University and San Diego Mesa College.

This introductory hands-on two-day workshop is a must for any educator who wants to explore earth science in an intuitive and informative way. We will use GeoMapApp, a free and user-friendly computer mapping software that helps you explore and visualize a broad range of geoscience data: seafloor bathymetry, earthquake data, plate motion, hydrothermal vents, movements of tagged whales, and much more!

You will learn all the basics of GeoMapApp, discover online data sources, and prepare a lesson plan that introduces your students to dynamic opportunities for interactive learning. This research-centered tool has wide applicability to earth science education and is used by middle school and high school teachers and by researchers at institutions across the globe. We will go to the deepest places in the world, and follow the movements of the largest animals on our planet, the great blue whales.

Professional development credit will be offered through UCSD Extension. This is a two-quarter-unit course.

Registration is free. Space is limited.
